About us
A rug workshop in SoHo, built around one method
Green Oriental Rug Cleaning exists for a simple reason: the rugs people care about should be washed the way they were made to be washed. By hand, in cold water, with plant-based soap. No harsh chemicals, no hot-water shrinkage, no machine scrubbing. That is what “Green” means to us — a cleaning method, not a badge.

Why the method matters
Wool, silk and natural dyes are honest materials. Treat them gently and they last for generations; rush them with heat and chemistry and the damage is permanent. Every choice in our workshop follows from that.
Cold water
Hot water swells wool fibres and can shrink a rug or set stains for good. Cold water cleans without changing the rug's size or feel.
Plant-based soap
A mild, plant-based soap lifts soil without stripping the natural lanolin from wool or stressing silk and natural dyes.
Hand washed
Machines scrub every rug the same way. Hands adjust to the rug: softer on fragile areas, firmer where the soil sits.
Licensed and insured
Your rug is covered from the moment we pick it up to the moment we lay it back down in your home.
Careful in your home
Most of the job happens in our workshop, but it starts and ends in your home. We treat both with the same care.
- We roll, wrap and carry the rug ourselves, stairs included
- Furniture moved carefully and put back where it was
- Shoes off or covers on, floors protected
- A firm quote before work begins, and no surprises after
Honest pricing, free pickup
We quote per rug, in plain numbers, before any work begins. If a stain will not come out or a repair is not worth doing, we say so. Pickup and delivery are free across Manhattan, and the rug comes back when we said it would.
We are open every day from 8 in the morning to 8 in the evening, and the phone is answered by someone who actually washes rugs.
